YWCA is excited to be partnering with Nana Beacoat to present our follow-up CommUNITY Circle session on January 19 via ZOOM (Discuss Part 6 and Part 7). The virtual event will begin at 5:30 p.m.

CommUNITY Circles are a series of sessions where we discuss cultural identities, hidden biases, micro aggressions, and current harms inflicted upon communities of color and how to take steps to eliminate racism. This session they will be having their final discussions about the book Caste: Origins of Our Discontents by Isabel Wilkerson.

Caste  is an “eye-opening story of people and history, and a reexamination of what lies under the surface of ordinary lives and of American life today”. After participating in the Circle, attendees are invited to read the book and engage in additional conversations about the history of race in our country. Through reading and dialogue, we will dig deeper into these much needed topics, listen and learn from one another and work to create a more just society.

CommUNITY Circles is a program made possible through the Healing Illinois grant.
