Madison County Candidate Forum
YWCA Southwestern Illinois recognizes the importance of civic engagement and how critical it is for voters to get educated and use their voices every day, and especially on election day. To educate voters, YWCA Southwestern Illinois Get Out the Vote Project will be hosting a Madison County Candidate Forum on Tuesday, October 18th at 7:00pm in our Gymnasium, located at 304 E. Third Street, in Alton. Masks aren’t mandatory but anyone who would like to do so is invited to wear a mask.
Candidates from the following races have been invited: Illinois State Senate District 56, Illinois House of Representatives District 111, Madison County Clerk.
Event Format
There will be initial questions from the moderator for each group of candidates (e.g., candidates for County Clerk), and, if there is time, we will take questions from the audience as well. This is not a debate format.
We will start at 7 p.m. The program will be broken down into three segments based on the office being contested. We will start with the two candidates for State Senate, followed by the candidates for State Representative, then the County Clerk candidates.
Each segment will last about 30 minutes so the Senate candidates will speak from approximately 7:10-7:40, the Representative candidates from 7:45-8:15, and the County Clerk candidates from 8:20-8:50.
Each segment of the agenda will begin with the two candidates being asked by the moderator to introduce themselves and make a brief opening statement.
