Classes are held in our two dance studios and gymnasium at YWCA of Alton.
Dance classes offer a wide array of benefits, including increasing strength, flexibility, and coordination in students. Students have an emotional outlet to release their feelings in a safe space. Dancers are able to express themselves through movement and learn how to channel their energy into positivity.
Dance helps out youth develop coping mechanisms they can carry it into adulthood and continue to use dance as their outlet rather than choose a more destructive habit.
For more information on dance classes, please contact (618) 558-7700 or check out Showtime Productions web page at www.showtimeproductionsalton.com.
YWCA of Alton offers a conveniently located Fitness Club located in downtown Alton.
Monthly fees are $12 for individuals and $22 for families with no contracts required. Seniors have the option of annual memberships for $100.
The Fitness Club includes ellipticals, treadmills, stair climbers, rowing machines and stationery bikes. Each of these machines offers a way to complete your warm-up, workout, and cool down.
On site free weights and weight machines allow you to strengthen one specific muscle at a time or group of muscles, and are effective for building muscle tissue and strength.
Fitness Club members have access to our gymnasium with a full sized basketball court and our locker rooms.
Research shows that not only can weightlifting improve your body composition and give you a toned appearance, it can also improve your overall health. Weightlifting can help you burn fat, reduce your risk of diabetes, prevent back pain and even help you fight depression.

YWCA of Alton sponsors seasonal Line Dance classes led by the lovely Diane Ingram. The class features Specs and Stilettos instructors. Dances vary from week to week but include “Cupid Shuffle,” “Wobble,” “Chuck Baby,” “Wild Wild West,” “Cha-Cha,” and “Blurred Lines.”
Line Dancing is a unique form of exercise because it provides the heart-healthy benefits of an aerobic exercise while also allowing you to engage in a social activity.
Many of our Line Dancers have started out with the intention of dropping in for a class and then find themselves becoming addicted to line dancing because they love the music, the confidence that grows from mastering a dance, and the friendships that start to form in the YWCA of Alton Line Dance classes.
Classes are affordably priced at $5.00 per session.
Check back with us during Winter 2019 for the next session of Line Dancing by calling 618.465.7774.
